5-Day No-Prep Sub Plan — Middle School ELA
Five full days of no-prep, substitute-ready middle school English, built for the problem that makes an ELA absence awkward: the person covering your room can read, but cannot teach your unit. Each day is an original nonfiction reading with every answer on the handout, followed by a page that checks its own answers, and a run sheet at the front tells the substitute exactly what to hand out and in what order. The five days cover the middle-school scope — reading literature, reading informational text, vocabulary and word study, grammar and conventions, and writing and revision — so this is a week of coursework rather than a folder of activities. Day 1 carries a short original story inside the reading, so students analyze literature rather than only reading about it. You come back to a complete set of answer keys and a class that kept working.
Sub & Teacher Notes cover sheet — what to hand out each day
5 self-checking worksheet sets (one per day, 67 questions total) + 5 answer keys
17-page PDF: print pages 1-11 for the student set; answer keys at the back
Each day is standalone — no prior lesson needed; run the days in any order
